On September 9, 2013 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency launched a web tool that intends to improve the access to chemical health and safety information. The new web tool is called ChemView and allows users to access health and safety information in a format permitting comparison of chemicals by use as well as health and environmental effects. The database may be searched using Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) number, use, hazard effect or regulatory action, and provides summary information as well as original documents. Currently, the database contains information on 1500 chemicals. However, it will be enlarged upon in the upcoming months to various thousands of chemicals. On its webpage, the EPA welcomes feedback on functionality, content and appearance of the tool.
