An article published online February 24, 2014 on the website of the news provider The Examiner reports on a draft regulation intended to ban sales of plastic water containers with a volume up to 21 fluid ounces (621 ml) on public ground in San Francisco. The draft was composed as an answer to campaigns calling for a reduction of plastic waste and fossil fuel consumption. The ban would among others affect mobile food operators and park vendors at street fairs. While environmentalist favor the planed regulation, fair organizers raise concerns about its practicability, and the American Beverage Association is quoted saying it as a “misguided policy.” City officials state that the ban is the first step in a long process, which, as for now, allows for exemptions and exceptions.
