On July 25, 2013 the American Chemistry Council (ACC) published a press release announcing its support of the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) new draft scientific opinion on the exposure assessment of bisphenol A (BPA). In the opinion, EFSA concludes that exposure to BPA is significantly lower than previously estimated (previously reported on by the FPF). Steve Hentges of ACC’s Polycarbonate/BPA Global Group argues that EFSA’s conclusions are in agreement with those of other government agencies around the world and that according to the U.S. Food and Drug Authority (FDA) BPA is safe at the levels found in food items.
