On January 23-25, 2018, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Scientific Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF) held its 73rd plenary meeting in Parma, Italy.

According to the meeting minutes, the CEF Panel discussed, among other topics, the draft opinions on two processes to produce recycled plastic for food contact uses: EstPak Plastik (FPF reported) and Concept Plastic Packaging (FPF reported). Further, new mandates and questions received by EFSA were presented. Three requests concern food contact materials (FCMs): 1) Safety evaluation of FAVOR PAC 600 Series used as liquid absorber intended to be used in FCMs, 2) safety evaluation of General Plastic recycling process (Starlinger viscotec deCON technology), and 3) evaluation of a substance: tris(2- ethylhexyl) benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylate (CAS 3319-31-1).
