On November 5, 2014 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a news story announcing the first meeting of the Food Ingredients and Packaging (FIP) Network proposed to be set up at EFSA’s Advisory Forum on September 25-26, 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The meeting will take place November 12-14, 2014 in Parma, Italy. At the moment, regulation on plastic, recycled plastics and certain ceramic food contact materials (FCMs) is harmonized in the EU. However, many non-plastic FCMs are not regulated at EU level, including coatings, paper and board, adhesives, printing inks and rubber. The experts will therefore discuss the latest risk assessment activities, approaches and challenges related to the non-plastic FCMs, possible subjects for scientific cooperation and priorities for further work.
