On April 26, 2017 the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) published the minutes of the eighth and ninth meeting of its Working Group (WG) on BPA assessment protocol. The meetings were held on March 31 and April 6-7, 2017, by phone conference and in Parma, Italy, respectively.
The eighth meeting of the WG involved the subgroup on animal studies. The subgroup discussed the expert feedbacks received regarding the revised appraisal forms for the animal studies on bisphenol A (BPA, CAS 80-05-7) to be used in EFSA’s reassessment of the safety of BPA. The subgroup further prepared a “proposal for revision of the rating” and started a discussion on the integration of evidence.
The ninth meeting involved the entire WG, who reviewed the current draft of the BPA protocol. The WG made revisions to the draft and further discussed the appraisal of individual scientific studies, the rating of the confidence in the body of evidence, and the integration of evidence.
The next meeting of the WG is scheduled to be held on May 10, 2017 by phone conference.
