On June 20, 2016 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced that a working group of international experts commenced to evaluate new scientific evidence on the potential effects of bisphenol A (BPA, CAS 80-05-7) on the immune system. EFSA received a mandate to review the immunotoxicity of BPA from the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport after the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) released the second part of its report on BPA in March 2016 (FPF reported). EFSA’s Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) will issue a scientific statement regarding the evaluation of the new information after its plenary meeting on September 13-15, 2016.
