On April 25, 2017 the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) published the latest update of the meeting minutes of its Working Group (WG) on Recycling Plastics. The 16th meeting of the plastics recycling WG was held on March 6-7, 2017 in Parma, Italy.

During the meeting, the WG discussed the draft opinions and noted changes for the following polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling processes for food contact uses: Märkische Faser (FPF reported), Coexpan Montonate (Starlinger DeCon), and 4PET (Erema basic). The revised draft opinions on these processes will be scheduled for discussion and possible adoption in the CEF Panel. For the following recycling processes, the WG noted the need for clarifications to finalize the draft opinions: Coexpan Deutschland (Erema basic), Gneuss Kunststofftechnik recycling process (Gneuss 1 technology), Gneuss Kunststofftechnik recycling process (Gneuss 2 technology), and Morssinkhof-plastics. EFSA will request the clarifications from the applicants. The revised draft opinions will then be scheduled for discussion and possible adoption in the CEF Panel.

The next meeting of the plastics recycling WG is scheduled to be held on May 16, 2017 in Parma, Italy.
