On July 19, 2017 the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) published the latest update of the meeting minutes of its Working Group (WG) on Recycling Plastics. The 18th meeting of the plastics recycling WG was held on June 26-27, 2017 in Parma, Italy.

During the meeting, the WG discussed the draft opinion on the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) recycling process ‘Morssinkhof-plastics’ and scheduled it for re-discussion. The WG further discussed and noted changes for the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling process ‘Krones.’ “The revised draft opinion will be scheduled for discussion and possible adoption in the next Panel,” the minutes read. Draft opinions were also discussed for the processes ‘Linpac’ and ‘RecyPET Hungaria.’ For both processes, clarifications are needed to finalize the opinions. Therefore, clarifications will be requested from the applicants and the revised opinions will be scheduled for re-discussion. Lastly, the WG postponed discussion of the PET recycling process ‘Envases Ureña’ due to time constraints.

The next meeting of the plastics recycling WG is scheduled to be held on October 9-10, 2017 in Athens, Greece.
