On December 20, 2017, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) published the latest update of the meeting minutes of its Working Group (WG) on Recycling Plastics. The 20th meeting of the plastics recycling WG was held on December 5, 2017 by phone conference.

During the meeting, the WG discussed the draft opinions on the following polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling processes: 1) ‘RecyPET Hungaria’ (FPF reported), 2) ‘BTB (PET direct iV+ technology)’ (FPF reported), 3) ‘EstPak Plastik (Starlinger viscotec deCON technology),’ and 4) ‘Concept Plastic Packaging (Starlinger viscotec deCON technology).’ For the first and second process, EFSA will request clarifications from the applicants and schedule the revised draft opinions for rediscussion. For the third and fourth process, the WG noted changes and will schedule the revised draft opinions for discussion and possible adoption.

Due to lack of time, the discussion of PET recycling process ‘Linpac Packaging GmbH (LINPAC technology)’ (FPF reported) was postponed to the next meeting of the WG which is scheduled to be held on February 5-6, 2018 in Parma, Italy.
