On March 21, 2017 the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) adopted the updated Community Rolling Action Plan (CoRAP) covering the years 2017 to 2019. The draft update of CoRAP was published by ECHA already in October 2016 (FPF reported). Under CoRAP 2017-2019, 22 EU Member States (MS) will evaluate 115 substances “to clarify the concerns related to their exposure and suspected serious hazard properties (persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT), carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) or endocrine disruptors in combination with wide dispersive consumer use).” In the coming 12 months, the MS will evaluate 22 substances specified for 2017.

Eight of the 22 substances to be evaluated in 2017 are relevant for food contact materials (FCMs): Zinc oxide (CAS 1314-13-2) and butan-1-ol (CAS 71-36-3) are included in the Union List of substances authorized for use in plastic FCMs (Annex I of Regulation (EU) No 10/2011), the ESCO working group list of non-plastic FCMs, and the FACET inventory of FCMs. Ammonium difluoro[1,1,2,2- tetrafluoro-2- (pentafluoroethoxy) ethoxy]acetate (CAS 908020-52-0) is included in the Union List and dicyclohexyl phthalate (CAS 84-61-7) can be found on the ESCO and FACET lists. 2,4-Di-tert-butylphenol (CAS 96-76-4), 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol (CAS 732-26-3), dipotassium tetraborate (CAS 1332-77-0), 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine (CAS 108-77-0), and triphenyl phosphate (CAS 115-86-6) are listed in the FACET inventory.
