On August 9, 2016 the EU Reference Laboratory for food contact materials (EURL-FCM) of the European Commission’s (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC) published its annual report of 2015. The report states that EURL-FCM’s work program “aims to contribute to a high level of health, ensuring a high level of protection for consumers and the environment, while favoring competitiveness and creation of jobs.” Further, the work program “responds to the specific objectives to contribute to a high level of safety of food and to improve effectiveness, efficiency and reliability of official controls.”

EURL-FCM’s deliverables of 2015 include among others: i) Method descriptions on the identification of polymers in multilayer films for food contact materials (FCMs) (FPF reported), ii) a method for the determination of metals released from food contact plastics, and iii) National Reference Laboratory (NRL) expert events on ceramics and compliance of kitchenware.
