On June 25, 2014 the European Commission’s Directorate General Enterprise and Industry (DG Enterprise) limited the migration of bisphenol A (BPA) from toys to 0.1 mg/l. The standard is taken from a voluntary limit laid down in the European Standard EN 71-9:2005+A1:2007 and already applied by European toy manufacturers. The temporary tolerable daily intake (t-TDI) for BPA recently proposed by EFSA is 5 µg/kg body weight/ day.  Migration of BPA from plastic food contact materials is limited to 0.6 mg/kg (SML) under EC 10/2011 (if the new t-TDI is enforced the migration limit could change to 0.3 mg/kg food).
