On October 5, 2017, the Food Packaging Forum (FPF) held its fifth annual workshop in Zurich, Switzerland, focusing on “Scientific challenges in the risk assessment of food contact materials.

Dr. Maricel Maffni, an independent consultant based in Maryland, U.S., informed about the U.S. Food Additives regulatory program and the lack of a post-market safety review program (FPF reported). In a short interview, she highlighted food additive petitions as a tool to ask the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to eliminate chemicals of concern from food contact materials.
