On April 19, 2013 international scientists sent a letter to officials from the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Secretariat for the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) asking them to involve endocrinologists in upcoming work plans on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The authors underlined that the basis of action on EDCs should be a clear definition, consideration for the vulnerability of living organism to EDCs, low dose effects, effects on future generations, sensitive time windows, mixture toxicity, and the precautionary principle.

The letter was signed by various scientists including Martin Scheringer, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, who is also president of the Food Packaging Forum.
