In an article published on July 27, 2017 by regulatory news provider Chemical Watch, editor Andrew Turley informed that Japan’s National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) has published a list of 84 new and 95 revised mandatory GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals) classification entries. Titanium dioxide (TiO2, CAS 13463-67-7) now has two entries, one for nanoparticles and another excluding nanoparticles. Both entries have the classification “category 1, inhalation, repeated exposure, specific target organ toxicity,” Turley explained. He further reported that NITE has “increased the severity of . . . the reproductive toxicity classification for bisphenol A [(BPA, CAS 80-05-7)] from category 2 to 1B.”
