On July 9, 2014 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced in a press release that Vittorio Silano was elected Chair of the Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF). He will be supported by the Vice-Chairs Wim Mennes and Detlef Foelle. Silano is the former Chair of EFSA’s Scientific Committee and holds positions at the Italian Ministry of Health and the University of Rome, Italy. The next task for the new panel will be to finalize the scientific opinion on bisphenol A (BPA) (previously reported on by the FPF).
