In April 2017, the latest version of the FACET (Flavours, Additives, and food Contact materials Exposure Task) tool was released by the European Commission’s (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC). FACET version 3.0.2 is available for download on JRC’s website, free of charge.

For food contact materials (FCMs), the FACET tool enables estimates of exposure to be derived for: i) New and existing substances used in existing FCMs, ii) new packaging structures containing new or existing substances, iii) non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) associated with an existing or new substance, iv) NIAS associated with a material, v) analytical data obtained from surveys of foodstuffs (either by a control authority or a company), vi) different age groups and genders, vii) packaging loyal consumers, and viii) eight different EU countries.
