In a letter sent on May 8, 2013 to European Commission President Barroso und three other commissioners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs)  urged political action on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The non-profit organization International Chemical Secretariat (ChemSec) together with 19 other NGOs requests comprehensive and workable EDC identification criteria and a far-sighted EU strategy. Finally the NGOs ask to only authorize EDCs under REACH where they are essential to society with no alternatives available. Other signatories include Greenpeace, ChemTrust, the Breast Cancer Fund and the German Friends for the Earth (BUND).
