Twenty different international non-government organizations (NGOs) have expressed their concern with the October 1st, 2012, announcement of an EFSA scientific opinion on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) for March 2013. In their open letter addressed to EU Commissioners John Dalli (DG Health & Consumer Policy) and Janez Potocnik (DG Environment) the NGOs point out that various scientific expert groups have already been at work for over one year, by request from the EU Commission’s DG Environment in the context of the EU Commission’s new EDCs strategy. In addition, a scientific report has been commissioned by DG Environment reviewing the ”State of the art assessment of endocrine disruptors”. NGOs are now asking for clarification how an additional scientific opinion on EDCs by EFSA will assist in the ongoing process at the EU Commission.
