On June 11, 2013 the chemical manufacturer SABIC released new Declarations of Compliance (DoCs) for its polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) products. The new DoCs are in accordance with EC regulation 10/2011. EC regulation 10/2011 specifies new testing conditions including a 10 day test at 60°C for food contact materials intended to be in contact with the food for more than 30 days at room temperature. The regulation requires manufacturers to provide adjusted DoCs to direct downstream processors and will take effect in 2016 after a 5 year transitional period. By then all manufacturers of plastic materials intended for food contact will have to provide DoCs assuring that all materials are safe in accordance with the regulation.
