Empire Technology Development LLC filed a patent for a bisphenol A (BPA) capturing system for cans with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on November 21, 2012. The patent application was made available online on April 4, 2013 on the web page of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Application # 20130081357). A secondary coating intending to capture BPA leaching from the primary BPA containing coating forms part of the technology. The inner lining consists of an electrospun material able to bind BPA. The technology shall prevent BPA from leaching into food contained within the can.
