On July 10, 2017, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published two documents that describe reporting requirements for submitting data on the occurrence of monitored chemicals in food.

The first document, updating and replacing the June 2015 version, concerns the Standard Sample Description (SSD) for food and feed, used for transmitting chemical occurrence data which are to be used by EFSA in dietary exposure assessment. It “describes the mandatory data elements and elaborates on specific reporting requirements for submission of analytical occurrence data on specific contaminants in food and feed as well as food additives to EFSA.”

The second document deals with the “Standard Sample Description vers. 2 (SSD2) for food and feed,” which is “the future EFSA standard for transmission of contaminant and food additives occurrence data . . . for use in exposure assessments.”
