On June 30, 2015 the non-governmental organization Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN Europe) reported on a roundtable meeting on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) organized by PAN Europe and hosted by Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Nicola Caputo. The roundtable meeting was held on June 30, 2015 and invitees included MEPs, the European Commission’s (EC) directorates, Member States (MS), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), stakeholders and academics. The aim of the roundtable was to have a high level independent science meeting on EDCs and to discuss the need for immediate regulation of EDCs in the EU. PAN Europe urges regulators to make use of the scientific knowledge on EDCs and ban EDCs from pesticides that remain as residues in our foods, biocides used in households and all other products that come in direct contact with humans and wildlife. MEP Nicola Caputo said “the European Union should act to reduce exposure to EDCs. Even if we do not have all the answers, we do know enough to regulate these substances in accordance with the precautionary principle”.
