On June 26, 2014 the Swedish Chemical Agency (Kemi) published a survey of products containing phthalates. The list of products containing phthalates includes among others cables, flooring, medical equipment, and food packaging materials. At the same time, the survey concludes that the use of alternative, safer plasticizers is growing rapidly in Sweden. Non-phthalate plasticizer alternatives identified by the Danish Ministry of the Environment include di-iso-nonyl adipate (DINA), 1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid diisononyl ester (DINCH, CAS 166412-78-8), dioctyl terephthalate (DEHT, CAS 6422-86-2), glycerides, castor-oil-mono-, hydrogenated, acetates (COMGHA CAS 736150-63-3), tributyl O-acetylcitrate (ABTC, CAS 77-90-7) and sulfonic acids, C10-21-alkane, Ph esters (ASE, CAS 91082-17-6). Currently 12 phthalates are listed on the European Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern, with 4 being listed on Annex XIV of the European chemical regulation REACH and thus intended for phase out.
