On June 16, 2014 the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) started the public consultation on triclosan as a potential candidate for substitution. Triclosan is considered for listing as a candidate for substitution under the European Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) because of its toxicity and bioaccumulation potential. Triclosan is used as an antimicrobial active ingredient in soaps and is also employed in food contact applications.
