In an article published on May 31, 2017, regulatory news provider Chemical Watch reports that Turkey has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of two new regulations for food contact materials (FCMs). The first regulation aims to “determine the general rules for food contact materials and articles, and setting the procedure for the authorization of the substances that are used in the food contact materials and articles.” The second regulation focuses on “rules for active and intelligent materials and articles that are in contact with food.” The proposed date of adoption is July 30 and publication is foreseen for August 30, 2017. The regulations would enter into force six months from the date of publication, with a transitional period of one year. The final dates for comments are July 29 and 30, respectively.
