On June 13, 2013 the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s environment and economy subcommittee hosted a hearing on Title I of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The hearing aimed at understanding TSCA’s history and reviewing its impact and responded to a bill introduced to Senate on June 3, 2013 by Senators Lautenberg (†) and Vitter. The bill requests that all chemicals, which were grandfathered into the chemical legislation in 1958, undergo evaluation for the first time (see FPF article).

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) commented in a press release published June 12, 2013 that it welcomed the hearing as an effort to increase the understanding of the chemical regulatory system. In the release Cal Dooley, President and CEO of the ACC, states a revision of TSCA is necessary to better reflect today’s science and needs.
