On July 22, 2015 the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced that the first two applications for union-wide authorization of biocidal products have been submitted. The applications are for biocidal product families containing the active substance iodine and are used as disinfectants for veterinary hygiene purposes (product-type 3). ECHA did not further specify the identity of the substances. However, a list of biocidal products granted with Union authorization will be published on ECHA’s website in the future.

Union authorization under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) allows for a biocidal product to be marketed in all European markets without additional authorization in single Member States.
