According to a press release from April 22, 2014 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a searchable “Food Code Reference System” (FCRS), answering questions regarding food safety in the food retail and service sector. FCRS provides a uniform technical and legal basis for local governments to update food safety rules in a regular and consistent manner. FCRS answers questions commonly posed to the FDA regarding the U.S. Food Code. The initial publication contains about 20 entries regarding issues such as the storage of food, the design of food establishments, the cleaning of food equipment, bare-hand food contact and contamination prevention.
