The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a press release stating that it will publish its scientific opinion on bisphenol A (BPA) in November, rather than in May as originally planned, after a public consultation taking place in July. In the statement EFSA says that the extension of the time line for the scientific opinion will allow the agency to also consider other scientific work that is currently taking place at the European and the national level. The Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF), which is charged with the task of writing the scientific opinion, will undertake a full reevaluation of the human risks arising from exposure to BPA and also consider the relevance of low dose exposures. The scientific opinion will inform further regulatory measures by the European Commission.
