Joel completed his MSc in Earth and Climate Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich). During his studies, his research focused on understanding past climatic conditions based on the sediments and landforms left behind by extinct glaciers and digital 3D glacier models. At the university, he worked as a teaching assistant developing supplementary course content to better communicate related scientific principles and techniques. He is a board member of a non-profit critical thinking collective responsible for scientific literacy and communications. In this capacity, he has produced multiple educational videos explaining the very basics of science to a wide-ranging audience. Joel runs a personal food blog where he posts recipes, researches, and shares the science on fundamental topics in food & cooking.
