On March 27, 2018, at 02:00 pm CET (Central European Time), the Food Packaging Forum (FPF) held a public webinar on the substance surfynol as an example of reprotoxic chemicals in food contact articles.

Surfynol is used in adhesives applied to construct multilayer plastics or to glue plastics to paper. Components of surfynol can migrate through the different layers of multilayer packaging and transfer to water and other food simulants in contact with the packaging.

Prof. Dr. Cristina Nerin from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, and her colleagues found boar sperm stored in surfynol-containing multilayer plastic bags to exhibit decreased reproductive capacity (FPF reported). Prof. Dr. Nerin presented the details of this research and discussed its implications for reproductive health.

The talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session.
