The 8th revision of the Globally Harmonized System of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS) has been published in a printed form by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Initially introduced in 2005, this revision of the GHS includes new:

  • classification criteria
  • hazard communication elements
  • clarifications for the classification criteria for specific target organ toxicity
  • revised and further rationalized precautionary statements
  • decision logics and guidance for chemicals under pressure
  • provisions for use of data and non-test methods for assessing skin corrosion and irritation

The print version in English is currently available for order, and the electronic version as well as translations into other languages is reported to become available for purchase within the next few months.
