The American Chemistry Council (ACC) published a statement on February 19, 2013 in which responded to the State of the Science on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals report published February 19, 2013 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nation’s Environmental Program (UNEP). The ACC states that it supports further research into Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) but criticizes the data evaluation method used in the WHO/UNEP report. The ACC points out that ACC members have contributed to standardized and validated screens as well as tested substances for potential effects on the endocrine system. While supporting a general need for more research into EDCs, the ACC criticizes that the authors of the WHO/UNEP report did not apply the “best practices of systematic evidence-based review” but rather relied on their own judgment. The ACC is of the opinion that the results of the report should be seen in the light of this knowledge.
