In its January 2014 Newsletter the industry association Swiss Packaging Institute (SVI) announced the start of a joint industry group (JIG) project on barriers for inner bags of recycling cartons. The SVI initiated the project in response to recent concerns regarding the use of recycling carton for food packaging. The project is to investigate different potential barrier options, depending on which food types are to be packaged and which contaminants are of concern. In the long term, the projects aims to secure the use of recycling carton in food packaging and the trust in the producers of barrier materials. A first meeting of the JIG took place on December 3, 2013.
