The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) launched a business initiative called Behind the Label aiming to remove chemicals of concern (COCs) from everyday consumer products such as food and food packaging, personal care products, and electronic products. In the scope of the initiative, EDF is working with companies – all along the consumer product supply chain – to adopt safer chemical policies in order to promote safer products. Behind the Label provides background information and regular updates on five key pillars of industry leadership for safer chemicals in the marketplace: 1) Institutional commitment, 2) supply chain transparency, 3) informed consumers, 4) product design, and 5) public commitment. The ultimate goal of Behind the Label is to make safer chemical practices an integral part of daily commerce as the demand for ingredient transparency and safer chemical ingredients in consumer products is growing.
