In an article published on October 5, 2018, the industry association The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE) informed that recycling of beverage cartons in the EU reached 48% in 2017, while the total recovery rate was at 76%. This achievement marks “the twelfth consecutive year of increased recovery for recycling.”

Annick Carpentier, director general of ACE, said that ACE members, including BillerudKorsnäs, Elopak, SIG, Stora Enso and Tetra Pak, decided to launch a “new pan-European platform [that] will coordinate and drive EU-wide and country-specific solutions to optimize beverage carton collection and recycling.”
