In the contribution, Andreas Kortenkamp, professor at Brunel University, U.K., asserts that the French BPA ban makes use of the precautionary principle and may be followed by other European Union Member States. On the other hand, Nick Mullon chief executive of the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA) points out that official risk assessment agencies including the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration consider the use of BPA in food contact materials (FCMs) safe.
