In an article published on January 20, 2020, news provider BBC informed that China has announced a plan to restrict the use of single-use plastics across the country. The country’s National Development and Reform Commission is reported to have detailed the plan, which includes a ban of straws by the end of 2020, non-degradable plastic bags in 2022, requiring the restaurant industry to reduce its use of single-use plastic items by 30%, and ban hotels from offering single-use plastic items by 2025.
