Proceedings of the “Low dose effects and non-monotonic dose responses for endocrine active chemicals: Science to practice” workshop held September 12 – 14, 2012 in Berlin have been published. The article summarizing the workshop appeared online on August 9, 2013 in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Chemosphere (Beausoleil et al. 2013).

Written by members of the workshop’s planning committee, the article gives an overview of the workshop’s objectives, presentations and discussions. It also summarizes participants’ opinions that were collected by means of electronic polling throughout the workshop.

There was consensus that further work is required to understand the relevance of low dose effects, and how current risk assessment of EDCs needs to be changed accordingly. Finally, the article lists several suggestions how the issue of low dose and non-monotonic dose response can be further developed to ensure that EDC risk assessment is based on the best available scientific knowledge to date. Maintaining a constructive and open dialogue between all stakeholders in the context of various thematic workshops is proposed.
