On May 17, 2017 the campaign Friends of Glass released the results of a Europe-wide survey measuring consumers’ perception and usage of glass packaging for food and drinks. The survey involved 17’377 Europeans from eleven countries (Germany, France, Italy, UK, Spain, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and Switzerland) and was conducted from November 28 to December 14, 2016. “85% of Europeans would recommend glass to their friends and family,” Friends of Glass reported. 53% of consumers regard glass as the safest food packaging material when compared to metal tins, bag-in-box packaging, beverage cartons, plastics, and metal beverage cans. Further, 73% rate glass to be the safest drink packaging material, the survey found. Also, glass packaging is viewed as having the lowest risk of interacting with food or drink contents.
