On June 18, 2014 the Danish order establishing a register of products containing nanomaterials entered into force. From now on, manufacturers are obliged to register their products with the Danish authorities if their product or mixture can be reasonably foreseen to be released. Nano-products not releasing the nanomaterial but other substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR) or environmentally harmful. Among other product groups food contact materials are exempted from the requirement. Reporting will be required once a year and the registry is managed by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. The order defines nanomaterials in accordance with the European Commission’s recommended definition.
