Already this autumn the Danish environment ministry will ban the four phthalates di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) and benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP). The four phthalates are currently in use as plasticizers of PVC. Ida Auken, the Danish environmental minister, stated that the ministry feels to have sufficient scientific evidence to justify action. In doing so, Denmark risk going to court with the EU, depending on whether the Danish step is interpreted as contradictory to European REACH legislation or not.
