In a press release published on October 24, 2013 the chemical manufacturer DuPont announced its full separation of its Performance Chemicals segment, which includes the Titanium Technologies and Chemicals & Fluoroproducts businesses. As such, DuPont will separate from all its fluorochemical segments. The spin-off forms part of a larger portfolio enhancement that has guided DuPont to previously separate from its Performance Coatings segment and acquire the food company Danisco. The Performance Chemicals segment will operate as an independent, publically traded company. Polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) are used as stain and water resistant agents in textiles and food contact materials. Applications include non-stick kitchen ware as well as water resistant paper and board. In particular, perfluorinated compounds have come under scrutiny due to their persistent, bioaccumulative and carcinogenic properties.
