European Commission (EC) Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) published several communications concerning the endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), summarizing the discussions between Member States (MS) and EC that took place at recent meetings.
The Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (PAFF) discussed the EC’s proposal for EDC identification criteria and the Impact Assessment study (FPF reported), as well as the integration of EDC criteria in the regulations on plant protection products and biocidal products. A summary of the questions asked by the Member States, along with the EC’s responses, can be found in the Summary Reports of PAFF Committee meetings held on June 22, 2016 and September 21, 2016 in Brussels.
Similar topics were discussed at the 65th and 66th meetings of representatives of Members States Competent Authorities for the implementation of Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 concerning the marketing and use of biocidal products, which were held in Brussels on June 22, 2016 and September 21-23, 2016, respectively. The discussions are summarized in the published minutes.
Further, DG SANTE informed that on October 17, 2016 it has issued a mandate to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to “provide scientific and technical assistance to the Commission in order to issue a common guidance document for the implementation of the proposed scientific criteria concerning the hazard identification of endocrine disruptors in the context of Regulations (EC) No 1107/2009 and (EU) No 528/2012 [for plant protection products and biocidal products].”
