On July 16, 2019, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Food Ingredients and Packaging Unit published the minutes of the second meeting of its Working Group on Bisphenol S (WG-BPS). The meeting was held on July 4, 2019, by teleconference.

The group continued reviewing the draft summary of the effects observed in the extended one-generation reproductive toxicity study (EOGRTS) for bisphenol S (BPS, CAS 80-09-1), EFSA mandate EFSA-Q-2019-00299 (FPF reported). More specifically, “an overview of the DIT [(developmental immunotoxicity)] and DNT [(developmental neurotoxicity)] cohorts of the EOGRTS was given by the experts and a scientific discussion on the results and findings among the Working Group members took place.” Then, “a summary of deficiencies identified in the EOGRTS draft report was collected and provided to the Registrant in view of the preparation of the final study report.”

After this, the “Experts of the Belgian Competent Authority under REACH” provided a draft summary of a toxicokinetic study, which was also discussed and commented on by the WG-BPS.

Lastly, representatives of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) presented “a template of the EFSA Technical Report and the outline of the document . . . , together with a proposed timeline for the finalization of the output.”

The next meeting of the WG-BPS will take place in September 2019 by teleconference (exact time and date to be confirmed).
