On March 20, 2019, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the minutes of the 8th meeting of its Working Group (WG) on bisphenol A (BPA, CAS 80-05-7) re-evaluation. The meeting was held on March 4, 2019, in Parma, Italy.
The discussion focused on appraisal methodology and particularly the scoring approach, which “was re-discussed and will be further tested for its validation.” Further, the WG took “new decisions . . . for refining the appraisal of the animal studies” and identified “the need for additional experts in the area of metabolic effects, carcinogenicity and mammary gland proliferation.” In addition, the timelines of the whole re-evaluation project were discussed.
