On September 4, 2013 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced that it will hold a conference on Transparency in Risk Assessment at its offices in Parma, Italy. The conference is scheduled for October 3, 2013. EFSA is the European risk assessment authority responsible inter alia for the evaluation of food contact materials and invites stakeholders to discuss how transparency in the risk assessment process can be improved. EFSA plans to discuss how and to what extend technical data and information can be made available to the broader public, and how transparency of the overall risk assessment process can be enhanced. In 2014, EFSA plans to publish a revised policy on openness and transparency, which shall include proposals brought forward during the conference. Registration for the stakeholder conference is open until September 10, 2013.
