On July 10, 2019, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the minutes of the seventh meeting of its Working Group on Food Contact Materials (WG-FCM). The meeting was held on June 18-19, 2019 in Zurich, Switzerland.

During the meeting, the group discussed the draft opinion and relevant changes regarding the substance tris(2-ethylhexyl) benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylate (CAS 3319-31-1) [EFSA-Q-2017-00645]. The revised draft opinion will be discussed at the group’s next meeting. A dossier received from the applicant regarding the substance benzophenone-3,3’-4,4’-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (CAS 2421-28-5) [EFSA-Q-2018-01007] was determined to require additional information in order to complete the risk assessment. The evaluation was therefore suspended pending the requested information. The working group also continued discussion in regards to the mandate received from the European Commission “to review whether the authorization of untreated wood flour and fibers (FCM No 96) is still in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.” The group discussed and noted further changes to a first draft of the opinion, and this will be further discussed at the next meeting.

The eighth meeting is scheduled to take place on September 3-5, 2019 in Parma, Italy.
